Australian family law after marriage equality is, at a high level, the same map: divorce for a valid marriage, de facto recognition for unmarried couples, parenting through best interests, property through a just and equitable adjustment.
There is no “Gold Coast rainbow family court” with different percentages. There are still specific legal questions this page will not pretend to close:
- who is a parent after donor conception or a surrogacy arrangement
- how a parenting order should name people who have been raising a child
- what a school or hospital will accept as authority to decide

Does Australian family law treat same-sex families differently?
At a high level, the Family Law Act applies to married and de facto couples including same-sex couples. Parentage, donor conception and parenting orders can still raise specific legal questions.
